Pause for Wellness

By September 8, 2020 Weight Loss

A pause–the most underrated and underused tool we have at our disposal to make remarkable changes in our lives.

It allows us to break the cycle of impulsive and mindless choices we make. These choices we consistently make have ill effects on our life, health and wellbeing.

The goal should be to take a moment and consider the choice we’re about to make. You’re familiar with that moment in time when we act on an impulse, reaching for a snack you might not need or choosing to stop for fast food because it’s simply quick and easy or just sounds good. But what if we turn that impulse into a well considered action? This means we pause to ask ourselves the following questions: “Do I really want this?” and “is this the best choice I can make right now?”

We can apply these questions to many situations we find ourselves in if we just take a pause. These questions free us from the robotic conditioned responses from too much media, too much advertising, too much stimulation that make our lives feel like a series of mindless actions: “buy
this now!” “Eat this now!” “Do this now!”

All these messages grind out a pathway in our brains that bypass our own rational thinking and take a shortcut directly to the action. Instead of listening to these messages – “Buy it!” “Eat it!” “Do it!” — try listening to these messages: “It’s your life! Your choices to make! Your health and wellness at stake!”

Just pause for a moment and let that sink in!
