HRT Requirements

Hormone Replacement Therapy Requirements

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a medical treatment used to help people manage their weight and lose weight. It works by replacing hormones that are either naturally produced in the body or taken as supplements. HRT can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including obesity, menopause, and thyroid disorders. At Physicians Weight Control & Wellness, we offer hormone replacement therapy as part of our comprehensive weight management program.

Requirements for Women

Women who are interested in hormone replacement therapy should have an initial consultation with one of our physicians to determine if they are eligible for treatment. During the consultation, the physician will discuss the patient’s medical history and any potential risks associated with HRT. The physician may also perform tests to measure hormone levels in order to determine if there is an imbalance that could be corrected with HRT. If the patient is deemed eligible for treatment, they will be prescribed a customized regimen of hormones and monitored closely throughout their course of treatment.

Women will be required to provide the following:

  • Saliva test results
    • Stop by our office (no appointment necessary) prior to your HRT appointment to buy a saliva test kit.
    • Mail the kit to the lab indicated on the box at least two weeks before your appointment.
    • Cost: See Price List – (kit, postage, and results sent to our office)
  • Mammogram report (dated less than one year prior to your HRT appointment)
  • Pap smear report (dated less than three years prior (if no prior abnormalities) and one year prior (if last pap result was abnormal).
*We do not perform or request mammograms or pap smears at this office.

Requirements for Men

Men who are interested in hormone replacement therapy should also have an initial consultation with one of our physicians to determine if they are eligible for treatment.

Men will be required to provide the following:

  • PSA, Testosterone, Metabolic Panel
    • Cost: See Price List to perform in our office.
    • Must be performed at a separate appointment scheduled 2+ weeks before initial HRT appointment

Appointments

After your initial HRT appointment, you can expect the following:

  • Monthly appointments to monitor dosage until your hormone levels have stabilized
  • Six months after your levels have stabilized, we will schedule a checkup appointment for a saliva/bloodwork retest

If you are a weight control program and hormone therapy patient, your appointments for both services can be combined for a discount.

Please review our fees and no-show policies before your scheduled HRT appointments.

Prescriptions

Prescriptions for HRT will provide refills to last until your next scheduled visit.

These prescriptions may require compounded hormones, which must be filled by a special pharmacy that compounds medication. Our office will provide a list of local pharmacies that can fill these prescriptions. These compounded medications may be at an additional cost, separate from your appointment fees.
